Dear Bitruers,
On Monday May 25th we'll be upgrading our XRP wallet with a significant feature - X-addresses!
An innovation from the famous Wietse Wind and based on community suggestions, X-addresses start with an X and remove the need to add a tag when sending your XRP. This makes it impossible to ever lose your coins by mistyping the tag or forgetting to add it at all.
On top of that, we also have some behind the scenes improvements which will make our XRP wallet even better. Our new wallet will have:
- A more secure method for signing and storing private keys, as well as accessing the key server
- A multi-signature system address
- An updated signature algorithm - we’ve changed to ED25519, an improvement on the currently used ECDSA, for increased security and efficiency.
That's a lot of technical words, but it boils down to making the wallet even more secure. If you want to get deep into the nitty-gritty you can read about the new algorithm here.
While you will be able to use both the legacy address and new X-address, we highly recommend you only use the X-address from now on to give yourself maximum security.
