The Dfinity Foundation has launched a new API named EVM RPC to boost cross-chain interoperability for Internet Computer (ICP) smart contracts, as detailed in a press release dated May 23 and shared with CryptoSlate.
The EVM RPC API enables ICP smart contracts to interact with any Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible chain, such as Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, and the Bitcoin blockchain, without intermediaries. Support for Solana is also planned shortly.
This API streamlines the development of multi-chain decentralized applications (dApps) by eliminating the dependence on bridges and wrapped tokens. It facilitates native chain interactions and liquidity management directly through network API keys.
Dfinity emphasized the groundbreaking nature of this development, stating, "Through DFINITY’s Chain Fusion technology, we enable true multi-chain interoperability. Developers can now create a single ICP smart contract that manages Bitcoin custody and programmatically triggers transactions based on events observed on Ethereum DeFi smart contracts."

Interoperable Stablecoin on the ICP Network
The Dfinity Foundation has revealed that its new API played a crucial role in deploying ckUSDC, an interoperable stablecoin pegged 1:1 to Circle’s USDC, on the Internet Computer (ICP) network.
USDC, the second-largest stablecoin with a market capitalization of $32.83 billion according to CryptoSlate, now has a multi-chain counterpart in ckUSDC. This "twin" utilizes chain-key cryptography alongside ICP smart contracts that hold the original assets directly. It functions similarly to other inter-ecosystem tokens on ICP, such as ckBTC and ckETH.
Since its introduction, ckUSDC has seen increasing adoption in significant projects like IC Lighthouse, ICPSwap, and Helix Markets, indicating a rising demand for such tokens.
Lomesh Dutta, DFINITY’s President of Growth, highlighted the broader implications of these innovations, stating, "With ckUSDC and the new read/write APIs, ICP smart contracts can now enable dozens of different chains to interact seamlessly with other networks. This advancement significantly enhances interoperability and unity within the Web3 ecosystem."
Conclusion
The launch of the EVM RPC API by the Dfinity Foundation marks a significant step forward in enhancing cross-chain interoperability for the Internet Computer (ICP) network. This innovative API allows ICP smart contracts to interact seamlessly with various Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible chains and the Bitcoin blockchain, with future support planned for Solana. By facilitating native chain interactions and simplifying the development of multi-chain decentralized applications, this technology could substantially advance the efficiency and utility of the Web3 ecosystem. Additionally, the successful deployment of the ckUSDC stablecoin further demonstrates the practical benefits and growing demand for such interoperable solutions. Together, these developments underscore Dfinity's commitment to fostering a more interconnected and accessible blockchain landscape.
