Ethereum gaming platform Immutable announced on Thursday the launch of The Main Quest, a rewards program that will incentivize players with up to $50 million worth of token rewards for playing games and interacting with its new zkEVM network.
Billed as the largest crypto gaming rewards program to date, The Main Quest will reward users of the recently launched Immutable zkEVM network, a layer-2 Ethereum gaming network built with Polygon zkEVM tech for various actions.
This includes earning tokens rewards for playing early games on the network, including mobile role-playing game Guild of Guardians, mech shooter MetalCore, action game Illuvium, outer space combat game Space Nation Online, and MMORPG Treeverse. Not all of these games have been released yet, but further games and incentives will also be added over time.
Furthermore, Immutable zkEVM users can earn rewards for using decentralized exchanges and other apps on the network, providing liquidity for trading pools, and for trading Immutable NFTs. The program, launched in partnership with Digital Worlds Foundation, offers substantial incentives for exploring games in Immutable’s ecosystem, which claims more than 270 titles currently in development. Players can immediately earn rewards by completing quests, playing games, and owning NFT collections on Immutable.
What is a zkEVM?
The EVM (Ethereum virtual machine) is the virtual machine that enables smart contracts to be executed on the Ethereum blockchain. Immutables zkEVM is a variant of the EVM built on Layer 2 zk-rollup, which is a scaling solution that enables high throughput and low-cost transactions while leveraging the security of the Ethereum mainnet.
The core benefit that it provides developers is that they can now build applications on a secure Layer 2 solution using the same language (Solidity) and development frameworks that they are used to on Ethereum Layer 1.
Immutable zkEVM or Immutable X?
Immutable offers two different rollup technologies on which you can build your Web3 game: Immutable X (built on StarkEx) and Immutable zkEVM (built on Polygon zkEVM).
Here is the comparison table below:
| Functionality | Immutable X | Immutable zkEVM |
| Accessible via Immutable APIs and SDKs | ✅ | ✅ |
| Secured by Ethereum with zk-proofs | ✅ | ✅ |
| Self-custodial | ✅ | ✅ |
| Gas-less transactions | ✅ | ❌ |
| Write custom smart contracts | ❌ | ✅ |
| Atomic contract composability | ❌ | ✅ |
| Compatibility with Ethereum tooling (Solidity, Hardhat, RPC nodes, etc.) | ❌ | ✅ |
Conclusion
Immutable’s launch of The Main Quest marks a significant milestone in the crypto gaming space, offering users the opportunity to earn substantial rewards for engaging with its zkEVM network. With up to $50 million worth of token rewards at stake, players can participate in various actions, including playing games like Guild of Guardians and Illuvium, providing liquidity for trading pools, and trading Immutable NFTs. This rewards program not only incentivizes gaming but also promotes the adoption of Immutable's zkEVM network, which boasts high throughput and low-cost transactions while maintaining the security of the Ethereum mainnet.
The introduction of Immutable zkEVM opens up new possibilities for developers, allowing them to build applications on a secure Layer 2 solution using familiar tools and frameworks. By offering a comparison between Immutable X and Immutable zkEVM, developers can assess the functionalities of each and choose the platform that best suits their needs. Overall, The Main Quest and Immutable’s zkEVM network represent promising developments in the crypto gaming ecosystem, providing users and developers alike with exciting opportunities for growth and innovation.
