Xahau Network, a side chain on the XRP Ecosystem, has just been launched in October 2023, raising speculations that it will push the ecosystem's growth and adoption further into the future.
People have speculated that because of this new side chain, XRP Ledger will process more transactions as the side chain will be faster and more functional, thus helping the XRP Ledger be more scalable in the future.
In this article we will be comparing the facts between Xahau Network and the XRP Ledger to see if the statements are correct that the side chain is faster than the main chain.
Why was The Xahau Network Created?
Xahau Network is a new side chain on the XRP Ecosystem that was created to be the smart contract chain for XRP developers.
This means that now developers can launch their own decentralized applications on top of the XRP Ledger through the help of Xahau Network.
The innovation has prompted speculations that the ecosystem will grow bigger in the future, because prior to the existence of the Xahau Network, developers cannot launch any DApps on the ledger.
XRP Ledger itself was created to accommodate transactions only, specifically international transactions like remittance.
How Fast is It?
After the launch of Xahau Network, people are interested in how fast the blockchain really is, as it promised a high transaction speed, but not promising higher than than XRP Ledger.
The narrative that the blockchain promises a higher transaction speed than XRP Ledger is only created by the community as typically, side chains have higher speed than the main chain.
Looking at the blockchain scanner, there is no information about the maximum speed that it can handle, but there is an average that can be seen from the real time data that the scanner provided.
From the scanner it can be seen that the transaction speed of Xahau Network stands at around 8 to 15 transactions per second, which is not really that fast.
But this can be caused by two things, which are that the blockchain is still in its early stage so the speed is still slow and is still being developed, or there are so little transactions volume that it has not many transactions to process which is why the data showed low transaction count per second.
Looking at social media, there are some complaints of the blockchain being slow, but there are still few, as there are no DApps running intensely on the Xahau Ecosystem yet.
Speed Comparison to the XRP Ledger
Compared to the XRP Ledger, the speed and fee is still relatively higher, because on the XRP Ledger, the current speed is around 15 transactions per second which is relatively the same, but the fees are lower.
On the Xahau Network, the fees stand around $0.058 per transaction while on the XRP Ledger, the fees are around $0.005 per transaction.
So, it can be seen that the Xahau Network is not exactly more scalable than the XRP Ledger so it is not the main selling point of the side chain.
The main selling point lies in the fact that it helps developers create projects or DApps on top of the XRP Ledger, which can never be done before the existence of the Xahau Network.
Although the Xahau Network has the same speed, it can be seen as more scalable as the blockchain processes more kinds of smart contracts than the XRP Ledger, which only processes transactions.
Overall, if the development continues we will see how prominent the Xahau Network is, but in the meantime since it is new, we just have to wait and see.
