The creator of the PEPE green frog meme, Matt Furie, has just launched his own NFT collection to celebrate the success of PEPE in the meme and crypto community.
What started as a regular animated meme became a world star hit after a lot of people used it as a brand, as a token, and even as a hate speech symbol.
PEPE Creator Launched an NFT Collection
PEPE, an iconic meme icon that was originally called the Pepe Meme Frog, has been a sensation in the internet community.
One of its evidence of success is the adoption of the meme that is being used as a logo for the famous PEPE meme coin.
The meme coin itself rose significantly during the last couple of weeks, even raising speculations that its price will increase until the bull market.
But now, the focus is shifting as the original creator of the Pepe meme has launched his own NFT collection on OpenSea.
The NFT collection is called Peplicator, with 22,100 NFTs to choose from, all in the shape of Pepe the green frog meme.
The NFT was launched on the Ethereum Blockchain in collaboration with Chain Saw, a DeFi project that has a goal of providing a decentralized lending and borrowing platform in the Ethereum Ecosystem.
Currently there are no specific utilities regarding the Peplicator NFT, but the transaction volume of this NFT has surged significantly because of speculations around it and the loyalty of the Pepe community.
NFT Volume Skyrocketed
Some have speculated that the NFT will have a utility of lending and borrowing because of its collaboration with Chain Saw.
This has increased the interest around the NFT collection, which essentially increased its transaction volume significantly.
Just after its launch on March 9th, 2024, the NFT collection has gathered transaction volume of more than 5,000 ETH.
The floor price of the NFT itself has increased from its listing price at around 0.1 ETH to currently 0.16 ETH at the time of writing.
There was also a special price of around 0.042 ETH for HEDZ NFT holders to mint this NFT from the OpenSea NFT Marketplace, so the floor price increase has been significant for them.
Currently there are 28,435 holders of the Peplicator NFTs where most of them are PEPE meme coin holders and the enthusiast around the Pepe meme.
It can be qualified as a huge success because the origin of the Pepe green frog character is far from what it is today.
It was originally drawn by Matt Furie as an innocent character in a 2015 online comic, but then it became popular in 2021 after being a meme and a symbol for a hate speech towards a certain US President.
The meme community has embraced PEPE with an open arm essentially creating FOMO around the PEPE meme coin, even though it was not created by Matt Furie.
Note that there is no correlation whatsoever between the PEPE meme coin and the Peplicator NFT, aside from both using the Pepe meme frog cartoon.
But in the future things might change as both are also running on the Ethereum Ecosystem, which makes it easier for a collaboration to happen.
Overall, the interest around PEPE seems high in the crypto space, as seen from the price surge of the meme coin and volume surge of the NFT Collection.
Projects related to the Pepe meme might be a good one to keep an eye out as it might lead to potential profit in the short term, especially going into the bull market.
